Your order will be processed 1 or 2 business days after receiving it. All orders are shipped priority so it will take 2 or 3 days to arrive depending on where you live.

Most starters in the market take days to be ready to be used. Mine is ready within 6-12 hours (depending on the T°)y

  • Kitchen digital scale
  • Glass container (of at least 3” x 7”)
  • All purpose flour – the bag needs to say “never bleached or bromated”
  • Water – if you live in a place where is heavily chlorined use filtered.

You will also need to find a place at home that it’s between 70°F to 85°F as the starter is very T° sensitive.

Story behind the product...

Throughout these years running the Studio, I have met so many home bakers! And in this journey, one of the topics I have faced the most, is students wanting to make sourdough bread. However, when I ask why haven’t they tried? I always get the same answers, which is not feeling they are capable of creating a starter from scratch.

I always encourage everyone to start their own! Why? Because going through the process, allows you to fully understand how it works. The variables that affect it, how it behaves, and how it could surprise you at any time. It is a slow process, that needs consistency. A lot of students think it requires time. However, it is not active time, it requires patience.

So, I wanted to give my students a jump start! Having no excuses, to dive into making their own healthy sourdough bread. Getting it, will allow you to focus on the bread making process, without having to worry if your starter is healthy and active. Mine, is ready to go!

Why should you get a fresh sourdough starter?

Purchasing a mature and active fresh sourdough starter is a great way to get right into sourdough bread baking! You won’t have to wait to create yours and doubt if its behaving as it should. Who is this product for?

Anyone who wants to dive and learn into sourdough bread baking. Purchasing our fresh starter includes walking you through the process of waking it up, and making your 1st loaf. We always support our students in any way we can.

In what form does the sourdough starter arrive?

We ship it fresh! Our sourdough starter is not dehydrated. For shipping purposes we only make it drier (by combining it with flour). This allows the starter to remain healthy during the shipping time. It also allows you to use it, as soon as you activate it! 

 

Dehydrated starters are not ready to use in few days... how is this one different?

Remember that a sourdough starter has 2 living organisms in it. Yeast and bacteria.

The process of dehydrating a sourdough starter, puts a lot of stress on the culture. That is why, when purchasing a dehydrated starter it will take you several days of consistent feeding, to be able to use it.

Our sourdough starter is not dehydrated. It is a fresh sourdough starter. You will notice though, that it comes shaped like a ball, in a drier state. This practice, will allow the culture to remain healthy during shipping, which will translate into being able to use it within few hours of receiving it!
